What is The Bone Broth Diet? What are the Key Components? And What are the Benefits?

WHAT IS THE BONE BROTH DIET

The Bone Broth Diet is a diet plan designed by Dr. Kellyann Petrucci, a naturopathic physician and weight loss specialist, who has helped thousands of patients achieve spectacular weight loss and more youthful-looking skin.

The 21-day dietary plan consists of three components:
1 – consuming nutrient-rich bone broth to promote weight loss loss, improve gut health, and reduce inflammation;
2 – intermittent fasting where bone broth is the primary source – all while nourishing with collagen, amino acids, and minerals; and
3 – eating foods that burn fat and are low in sugars and carbohydrates. It’s an efficient way to lose weight while improving the elasticity of the skin with collagen protein.

The Bone Broth Diet typically involves five days of eating low-carb, whole-food meals (including vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats) while drinking bone broth between meals, followed by two days of fasting.

WHAT ARE THE KEY COMPONENTS

Bone Broth:
* Made by simmering animal bones (often chicken, beef, or fish) with water, vegetables, herbs, and vinegar for extended periods.
* Rich in collagen, amino acids, minerals (calcium, magnesium), and gelatin.
Meal Structure:
* Involves eating paleo-style meals (focusing on lean proteins, non-starchy vegetables, healthy fats, and some fruits) five days a week.
* The other two days focus on intermittent fasting, where only bone broth is consumed during specific fasting windows.
Intermittent Fasting:
* On fasting days, bone broth is consumed every few hours to provide nourishment without breaking the fast entirely.
* Common fasting schedules include 16:8 (16 hours fasting, 8-hour eating window).
Duration:
* Typically followed for 21 days but can be adjusted based on personal goals.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS

Weight Loss: Bone broth is low in calories and high in protein, which can help with satiety and reduce overall calorie intake.
Improved Gut Health: Collagen and gelatin in bone broth may help strengthen the gut lining and promote digestive health.
Reduced Inflammation: Amino acids like glycine and proline are believed to have anti-inflammatory properties.
Enhanced Skin, Hair, and Nails: Collagen supports skin elasticity and overall skin health.
