Post Workout Smoothies and Shakes | Why They’re Important
Banana and Peanut Butter Post Workout Smoothie
Post Workout Smoothies and Shakes – Why They’re Important. They say to keep yourself hydrated during your workout as it gives you the energy to power through. But what about afterwards – when you’ve just worked yourself super hard and are now starving? These are not only hunger pangs, but it’s also your muscles telling you your body needs fuel – fuel needed to rebuild your muscles and help you recover faster.
Case in point – me yesterday. So my P90X has been staring at me for the past month, a workout program I USED to follow 10 years ago. It’s definitely not one I would recommend if you’re just starting out, if your very overweight, or even in your 50’s. But if your body is currently acclimated to working out your muscles, then I’d say give it a go. But just a heads up – IT’S INTENSE !!
Anyways, after doing 60 minutes of Kenpo, which is basically martial arts, I was drained and my body needed refueling. So I mixed up this Banana and Peanut Butter Post Workout Smoothie, which definitely did the trick. It filled me up, made my muscles less sore, and it gave me the energy I needed to get me through the rest of the day. The recipe is below.
Many Q&A’s have been made regarding the importance of post workout drinks. This is definitely worth reading if you’re planning on getting into a workout routine or are working out now. Heed the answers as your body will seriously thank you.
IMPORTANCE OF A POST WORKOUT SMOOTHIE

Protein plays an important role in repairing and rebuilding your muscles after exercise. While many people use protein mixes after their workouts to aid this process, you can make your own smoothie with ingredients full of protein, nutrients and vitamins too. This way you know exactly what you’re putting into your body.
When Should I Drink a Post Workout Smoothie?
Protein consumed 30 to 60 minutes after a long or intense workout will promote muscle recovery and synthesis when it’s paired with carbohydrates.
What Should I Put in My Post Workout Smoothie?
Blend at least one of these ingredients in your post workout out smoothie as they will replenish the necessary electrolytes need: ORANGE JUICE, BANANA’S, GINGER, BLUEBERRIES, GREEK YOGURT, CHIA SEEDS
