So what’s the deal with elderberries? For one they contain vitamins A, B, and C which support your immune system. Mix them together with cinnamon, ginger, cloves and honey and you’ve got yourself an excellent cold and flu fighting syrup. Here’s the simply recipe:
INGREDIENTS
3½ cups water
2/3 cup black elderberries (dried, or 1 1/3 cups fresh or frozen)
2 tbsp ginger (grated)
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp ground cloves
1 cup raw honey
INSTRUCTIONS
Pour water, elderberries, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves into sauce pan and bring to a boil. Cover and reduce to a simmer for about 45 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Mash the berries then pour through a strainer into a glass jar or bowl.
Discard the elderberries and let the liquid cool to lukewarm, then add the honey and stir well.. Pour the syrup into a mason jar or 16 ounce glass bottle and refrigerate. It’s ready for whenever you need it.
